Devon Rex Breeder FAQ

Answers families ask before joining the waitlist

This page covers the questions families most often ask about kittens, waitlist timing, pricing, HCM screening, transport, and placement at Creamy Elf Devons.

Kittens and Adoption

Availability, waitlist, and placement timing

Do you have Devon Rex kittens available?

Availability changes throughout the year because we produce a limited number of litters. Many kittens are spoken for through our waitlist before they are old enough to leave, so our kittens page is the best place to review current and planned availability.

How can I join your waitlist?

The first step is to contact us or submit an application with details about your household, prior pet experience, and what kind of placement you are seeking. We review each home individually rather than operating on a simple first-come system.

At what age do kittens go home?

Our kittens remain with us until they are developmentally ready for placement. We do not rush kittens out the door simply to create faster turnover.

Do you sell kittens for breeding?

Only on a very limited basis and only to approved programs that share our standards. Most kittens are placed in companion homes.

How much is a Devon Rex kitten?

Pricing depends on the individual kitten and placement type. We discuss current pricing directly with approved homes because a kitten should be evaluated as part of the full placement process, not as an impulse purchase.

Health and Testing

Testing, support, and breed health questions

Do your kittens come with a health guarantee?

Yes. Kittens are placed with a written health guarantee and supporting records. We also provide ongoing breeder support after the kitten goes home.

What health testing do you do?

Our testing approach is based on breed-appropriate screening, line knowledge, and veterinary oversight. Specific protocols may vary by cat and pairing, but health planning is part of every responsible breeding decision.

Do you test for HCM?

Cardiac health and HCM screening are part of how we approach responsible Devon Rex breeding. We do not treat HCM as a single box to tick; it belongs to broader long-term program management.

Are Devon Rex cats healthy?

Devon Rex can be robust, engaging companions, but they are still a pedigreed breed with real health considerations. A trustworthy breeder should discuss those honestly instead of making blanket promises.

Are Devon Rex cats hypoallergenic?

No. Some allergy sufferers do better with the breed, but there is no guarantee. Anyone with allergies should spend time around Devon Rex cats before making a commitment.

Location and Placement

California, transport, and where our kittens go

Where are you located?

Creamy Elf Devons is based in California and primarily works with families in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and other Northern and Southern California communities.

Do you place kittens outside California?

Yes, sometimes. California is our primary focus, but we may consider approved homes outside the state when transport logistics are appropriate and the match is strong.

Do you offer transport?

When needed, we can discuss responsible transport options. We prefer arrangements that prioritize the kitten's welfare and a smooth transition into the new home.

Do you work with families in the Bay Area or Los Angeles?

Yes. Many of our inquiries come from those regions, and they remain two of our primary service areas.

Program and Policies

Registration, contracts, and what families should expect

Are you CFA and TICA registered?

Yes. Creamy Elf Devons is a CFA and TICA registered Devon Rex cattery, and our program is built around preservation-minded, ethical breeding rather than high-volume production.

How are kittens raised?

Our kittens are raised in a home environment with regular human interaction, early social exposure, and routines that support confident temperaments.

Do you allow visits?

Visits are handled at our discretion and with the health and safety of our cats in mind. We set expectations individually rather than operating as a walk-in business.

Do you require a contract?

Yes. Responsible placement requires clear written expectations for both breeder and buyer, including health terms, care responsibilities, and return policies where applicable.

What makes your breeding program different?

We focus on long-term breed stewardship, careful pairing decisions, thoughtful placement, and lifetime support. The aim is not to move kittens quickly, but to produce and place them responsibly.

Next Step

Read the essentials, then apply when you are ready to be considered

Most families read these questions alongside our kittens, health guarantee, and breeding program pages. Once timing and fit feel clear, the application form is the right next step for serious homes.
